The announcement as always sounds so full of promise and motivation, but when you look at the details, it doesn’t quite deliver.
I am pleased that more people will be getting the help they so desperately need, but the amount of money pledged and the timescale set out is far too little over such a long timespan.
It is also just papering over the cracks left by the government’s austerity cuts to local services. Many people this will help, are those that have suffered because of the cuts.
I agree that children and young people should be encouraged to achieve their best. But at a time when we are seeing so many young people suffering from stress and suicidal thoughts, the last they need is a ‘Tiger Mother’ attitude.
