Mother’s Day, What Will You Be Doing?

My wife and I are going to see my mum over the weekend for mother’s day. As you may know from my previous blog, she is currently battling cancer and this has made the need to celebrate with her even more important.

I know that this is a battle that many face, but I think because of the fact that my dad died so long ago, I am conscious she is mortal after all. As children, many of us think that our parents will live forever, just like us. But as time passes, the inevitability hits home that we are all only here for a short time.

My anxiety doesn’t help the situation, but despite that nagging in my head that all is going wrong, I want to be there for her if I can. She was diagnosed just after Christmas and I am already beating myself up for not being there. Our daughter had Chicken Pox and my brothers family thought it would be a good idea if we didn’t travel down. I was disappointed, which was made worse by the subsequent diagnosis.

Even now, the thought that it could have been her last Christmas with us fills me with remorse and anger. The future’s not know yet, so with all the luck, she will come through, but there is a message in here I promise!

What are you doing for Mother’s Day? If you are visiting your mum, enjoy every moment of it. If you are not, then is there a way you can? With technology now, we can keep in tough all over the world and it would be sad to think that this Mothers Day could be the last for someone.

It sounds morbid, but my mother’s illness has refocused my thinking on the future. This and other things that have happened, have made it even more important to me to live for the moment and not to put things off.

Have a great Mother’s Day wherever you are.
